Question 1

What is a site plan?

Accepted Answer

A top-down drawing of your property showing the lot lines, existing buildings and what you plan to build, with the distances (setbacks) from each building to the property lines. Most building departments ask for one with a shed, garage, deck, pool or fence permit.

Question 2

Will my building department accept this site plan?

Accepted Answer

Many accept an owner-drawn site plan for small projects, but requirements vary. The planner prints at a true scale with a title block, but it doesn't check your local rules, and property lines must come from your survey or plat. Ask your building department what they need.
