Privacy Policy

BuildPlanners.com ("BuildPlanners", "we", "us") offers free DIY build planners that run in your web browser. This policy explains what information is involved when you use the site, who else may receive it, and the choices you have.

In short: there are no accounts and nothing to sign up for. The designs you make stay in your own browser. We only receive information from you if you choose to send us a report or message. Our hosting provider, a few content providers and our affiliate partners (Amazon and Home Depot, through Impact) can see basic technical information such as your IP address, and the affiliate partners use cookies to credit us when you shop through our links.

Information that stays in your browser

Your designs and settings — sizes, styles and options in each planner — are saved in your browser's local storage so they're there when you come back. They are not sent to us.
Prices you edit, your light/dark theme choice and similar preferences are stored the same way.
Share links and settings files contain your design settings (measurements and options) in the link itself or in the file you download. They only go where you send them.
The diagnostic log (the "Log" button) is kept in your browser to help troubleshoot problems. It is only sent to us if you include it in a report.

You can clear all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for buildplanners.com, or with "Reset everything" in a planner.

Information you choose to send us

If you use Report bug / Request, we receive what you submit: your message, your email address if you give one, and — so we can reproduce the problem — the planner's diagnostic information (your design settings, the page address, your browser and screen size, and the diagnostic log). Reports are delivered to our support inbox through FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), or by your own email program if you choose email. We use them only to answer you and to fix or improve the planners, and delete them when they're no longer needed.

Hosting and technical information

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web server, it processes your IP address and request details (such as the page requested, time, browser type and referring page) to deliver the site, keep it secure and measure performance. Cloudflare may keep short-term logs under its own policies. We do not use these logs to identify you.

Some content is loaded from other providers, which receive your IP address and browser details when your browser requests it: fonts from Google Fonts, and program libraries from jsDelivr and cdnjs (Cloudflare). They are governed by their own privacy policies.

Affiliate links, advertising and cookies

Some links on the site — such as the "Buy" links in the cost tables and hardware lists — are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This helps keep the planners free.

Amazon. BuildPlanners.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The Home Depot and other retailers, through the Impact affiliate network. Our pages include Impact's tracking script (from utt.impactcdn.com), which records page views and clicks on affiliate links and may set cookies so that purchases can be credited to us.

Third parties, including Amazon and other advertisers, may provide content and advertisements on this site, collect information directly from visitors, and place or recognize cookies on visitors' browsers. When you follow a link to a retailer, that retailer's own privacy policy applies to what you do there — see Amazon's Privacy Notice, The Home Depot's Privacy & Security Statement and Impact's Privacy Policy.

The site may also show a labelled promotion for our sister site, Nestomatic, or a labelled sponsor. Links to them may carry campaign tags (for example "utm_source=buildplanners") so they know the visit came from us; no personal information is added to those links.

We don't set our own advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't sell your personal information.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies, block third-party cookies, or use a content blocker in your browser. The planners keep working; affiliate links may then not be credited.
You can clear the designs and settings stored in your browser at any time (see above).
You can use the planners without ever sending us a report or your email address.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU and UK GDPR, and US state laws such as California's CCPA — you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it's used. In practice the only personal information we hold is what you've sent us in a report. To make a request, email support@nestomatic.com. For information held by Cloudflare, Google, Amazon, The Home Depot or Impact, please contact them directly.

Children

BuildPlanners is meant for adults planning home projects and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Where information is processed

We and the service providers above may process information in Canada, the United States and other countries where they operate.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site changes — for example if we add new partners. We'll change the date at the top when we do.
